Barbette Bastille Day Block Party

Nobody ever said a transatlantic transition would be easy.
Thankfully, this last weekend Minneapolis offered the best sort of balm for its Francophile souls.
{Barbette's Bastille Day Block Party}
--Vin blanc, s'il vous plaĆ®t.--
The local restaurant specializing in French dining and amusements (I like amusements!) threw a swinging block party - food, libations, live music. Scorching heat didn't stop lots of cool young things from coming out to celebrate France & prison-storming revolutions, and let's be honest, day drink.
Super French, huh?
The food was good but I still got a little wistful dreaming of Parisian street food: kabobs, samari sauce, a nutella and banana crepe (drool).
Also, lots of scantily-clad females, baseball caps and scary pronunciations of Bastille Day made good reminders of our middle America coordinates.
Rouge, Bleu et Blanc.
{{Red, White and Blue}}
\\\a tangible little piece of Paris///
 The music was awesome all day but when Astronautalis jumped on stage, he killed it. The crowd got into it and it was the perfect icing on the cake for a day that reminded me of why I love Minneapolis. It is full of creative people that aren't afraid to get excited about the things that they like, something the Parisienne self-aware cool doesn't aways permit.
But hey, maybe this is our Midwest science.

Beach House at La Maroquinerie

Christina and I managed to get ourselves into the sold-out Beach House show at La Maroquinerie in the 20eme.
---Boy, was it worth it---
It was such a relaxed show with a really solid set. And they played for a long time!
ps - La Maroquinerie is a very cool place. Go early for a show and enjoy a libation in their usually packed courtyard before heading down to small-in-a-good-way concert hall.

Jazz Brunch at La Bellevilloise

Hmm, Exceptional Brunch you say?
True to their words, Les Halles at La Bellevilloise is truly exceptional.
[[[ All-you-can it Buffet (yes, in Paris), in a warehouse garden, while listening to live jazz music]]]
Come for the video, stay for the foodie shots! ------>

Matt & Kim - Daylight

Remember this song?
 Its undeniable boppy-ness has been making it revive itself on my iPod for spring.

The Lumineers - Ho Hey

The Lumineers have the kind of soul that makes me think of my dad's old bluegrass records.
.
It makes me feel close to my memories, close home.
I like, I like.

Rhymesayes are La Machine Moulin Rouge

Such an amazing show.
Almost surreal to see them not only outside of First Ave, where I have literally seen them all countless times, but in Paris.!?

Techno Parade

While we were eating Ari's Bagels, we heard deep techno bass coming from a few blocks away - and got excited for the daytime Techno Parade which was taking over the streets of Paris.
